WWF
WHO WERE INVOLVED?

This year, Earth Hour will see the participation of 37 national capitals and some of the greatest cities in the world; including London, Beijing, Rome, Moscow, Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro, Hong Kong, Dubai, Singapore, Athens, Buenos Aires, Sydney, Mexico City, Istanbul, Copenhagen, Manila, Las Vegas, Brussels and Helsinki.

Closer to home, Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban are committed to helping reach Earth Hour’s global goal of 1 billion registered participants. Having said that, the more individuals taking part in Earth Hour the better, so we not only encourage, but challenge people from other South African cities and towns to join the movement and get involved. So far, towns that have pledged to get involved in Earth Hour 2009 include: Beaufort West, Cape St Francis, Ceres, Franschhoek, George, Hankey, Hermanus, Humansdorp, Jeffreys Bay, Knysna, Patensie, Stellenbosch and Thornhill, Yzerfontein, Moorreesburg, Riebeeck West, Riebeek-Kasteel, Abbotsdale, Kalbaskraal, Chatsworth, Riverlands, Koringberg, Plettenberg Bay, Malmesbury, Clanwilliam, Citrusdal, Lamberts Bay, Elands Bay, Graafwater, Leipoldtville, Wupperthal, Elandskloof, Paleisheuwel, Gans Bay, Stanford, Kleinmond, Darling, Sedgefield, Wilderness, Laingsburg and Pearly Beach Conservancy.

A number of South African celebrities, companies and organisations have recognised the importance of this initiative, pledged their support, and become Earth Hour ambassadors and affiliates.
